CASA Challenge 2020

Henrico CASA would like your support as a sponsor of our inaugural CASA Challenge, an outdoor, socially distanced, and self-scheduled golf “tournament” to be held between October 1 and December 31, 2020.This unique fundraiser will allow golfers to play a round at some of Richmond’s elite golf clubs and compete to win the CASA Cup! The tournament will run participant scores through the LeaderboardKing website which will equalize scores by using player handicaps and course weights so that scores can be compared, and a winner determined.

Henrico CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children during their court involvement. CASA volunteers spend many hours with these children, their families, and others who interact with the children. The advocates then provide judges with independent information on which to base decisions. Spending time with the children allows CASAs to monitor their cases while they are under the Court’s protection and ensure that they ultimately are in safe homes where they can thrive. This past year, Henrico CASA served 401 children through the efforts of 109 trained volunteers.

COVID-19 has affected all our lives but has created particularly serious circumstances for some children in our community who are in homes with increased stress and tensions putting them at risk of maltreatment or abuse. To help us meet the increasing needs in the community we have just begun a new class to train more volunteers. The proceeds from this year’s CASA Challenge will help us meet the costs of recruiting, screening, and training these new volunteers so that we can continue to serve all those children referred to us for our advocacy services.
